Clean Up Those Ugly Driveway Oil Stains

What to know how to get oil stains out of the driveway?
Everyone has them, oil stains on the driveway. You may have tried absorbant items to try to soak it up or minimize it, like kitty litter or sand. These solutions have two problems. They have to be left out in all sorts of weather or cleaned up and worse, they don't really remove the stain. So forget the kitty litter and the 50lb bags of sand!

Here's a quick & easy method to make them ALMOST disappear
Safety first, so wear dish gloves and safety glasses. Here is what you need to get started:

  • a putty knife
  • small bucket
  • TSP (wall cleaner
  • talc or baby power

Step 1:
Mix up a small batch of TSP (wall cleaner) and baby power (absorbant). Mix it into a paste with water. When it is spreadable, apply it to the stain with the putty knife like you are icing a cake. This will pull the stain up into the absorbant as it dries, so let it sit for day or so.

Step 2:
Come back the next day with your putty knife and scrap the area clean. Now, clean the area with a nylon utility brush and water. If the stain is deep you may need to repeat the process. Ta-Da! Your driveway should be good as new!
