A bathroom is much more than just a simple ‘bath’ room. A bathroom is often considered by many people to be a personal chill out zone. After all, where else can you jump around naked without the fear of being seen, play with water as much as you like, and make bubbles out of soap lather and gleefully burst them like a kid? Or maybe you are the type that likes to sing your heart out without the fear of being ridiculed or just plain lose yourself in the warm comfort of the bath tub. Where else, can all this happen, but in the bathroom.

When we talk of a bathroom being repaired, the first thing that springs to the mind is a heap of pipes being fitted and dismantled, fixed for leaks and in general, fiddled with. Bathroom repairs, normally aren’t very difficult to do and generally can be completed quite successfully even by a novice DIYer. It would however prove to be wise that you leave some bathroom repairs to the professionals, particularly when it comes to the drainage fittings or the main water inlet fittings. Also some bathroom repairs which involve electricity may be best repaired by experienced electricians. Installing an electric heater or extensive lighting may be a bit too much for the novice. It is also advisable to remember that water and electricity do not make good companions when introduced together, and can cause lethal electrical shocks.

Bathroom improvements are actually an extension of bathroom repairs. Bathroom improvements are those alterations made in the bathroom which are not the direct result of damage to the bathroom. Bathroom improvements involve installing better bathroom fixtures, replacing the tiles in the bathroom, waterproofing the walls of bathroom, replacing the bathroom ventilation, etc. Repainting the walls, adding extra lighting around the mirror and hanging new shower curtains all fall under the category of bathroom home improvements. Basically, anything which involves making the most inviting place in your house, a little more inviting is considered bathroom home improvements.

One of the special perks about making improvements to your bathroom is that it is a great place for the DIY novice to do their first project. Bathrooms are fun to makeover, and it is a smaller room, so if you do happen to paint the walls a color you don’t like, it isn’t that much work to change the color again.
